Whimsical Boho Styled Shoot at The Blakelands

It has been a tough year for us all, especially those in the wedding industry. I have missed the buzz of the wedding morning and the euphoric feeling of being involved in someone’s special day.

Whilst not being able to work for 5 months, I spent the time gathering ideas on how I could create content whilst weddings were put on hold. I thought a wedding shoot was a perfect opportunity to collaborate with some other wedding suppliers. Excited by this idea, I started messaging local vendors to see if anyone would like to be involved. I had such a great response and could not wait to work alongside such talented people in the wedding industry.

The Vision

The inspiration behind our shoot came from the beautiful backdrop of the venue. We all agreed a boho theme would work best with the venue décor and using more simple colours. The grounds surrounding the Blakelands with its lake was a perfect location for some outdoor shots and being blessed with such a beautiful day really elevated the photos.

Boho is a timeless style and we wanted to keep elements of classic boho but elevating it by adding modern details such as dried flowers. Macrame has also become popular and exuberates all things bohemian. After having such an amazing day and feeling inspired, I wanted to speak with some of the suppliers involved and gather their thoughts.

“Having a Black and Caucasian model, I wanted to choose a colour palette that would complement both skin tones. Pinks have always been one of my most requested bridal looks, they are wearable colours and exude femininity”.

“The boho look is all about enhancing your natural beauty. I wanted to keep the skin looking fresh and glowing with a flush of colour on the cheeks. Blush is one of my favourite things and can give you a gorgeous healthy glow”.

“I wanted a soft and pretty makeup look and I achieved this by layering cream products with powders. This helped to keep the texture of my models’ skin without it looking too heavy and overly powdered”.

“As Jay had a deeper complexion, I opted for rose gold hues on the eyes, a pop of berry blusher and a subtle glossy pout. This is a delicate way of adding pinks to darker skin tones”.

“On Megan I went for vintage pinks that have a warmer undertone and this lifted her skin beautifully. I kept the eyes, cheeks, and lips in the same colour family for a harmonised finish”.

“Blakelands is such an adaptable venue for any wedding theme, it is always a joy to work at this family owned venue.
Everyone was an amazing help on the day, and it was great to have everyone on hand. Boo from TDR helped with adjusting the bridal gowns to make sure they were picture perfect; I could do with her on every wedding!”

“I think my favourite part of the shoot was later in the afternoon when we all walked over towards the lake. We were blessed with gorgeous whether which added a softness to the photos. This was the perfect place for Clare’s wooden arch which was adorned with an array of flowers. It worked perfectly with the boho theme and matched the outside space.”

“Behind the arch is a majestic old apple tree with a rustic swing attached. We all helped to dress the tree with macramé hangings and lanterns. We also draped fabric around the branches that swayed softly in the wind. This was a stunning backdrop for photographs and having the lake behind it looked exquisite”.

“I want to thank Megan & Jay for being such outstanding models, you made my job so easy”.

Boho Wedding Stationery

April Days Design

“When looking at stationery designs, I decided to use a raw edge cotton rag paper. It is handmade but gives a very natural look. Rather than printing onto them, I wrote by hand with gold calligraphy to keep my products as wild and whimsical as they could be. I added small drops of water colour for the boho style and to tie in the colour theme, this always looks effective on wedding tables!”

“I love using natural and environmentally friendly products in my work. For the table plan I used the same materials but added some printed elements onto the hessian board and easel. I also used sprigs of flowers to create that boho style, it looked fresh and outdoor inspired”.

“My final piece was a large hanging sign, this created a great focal point and are a lovely personal touch on a wedding day. I had the quote ‘and so the adventure begins!’ onto the sign. I chose this quote because when I think of boho, I think outdoors, wanderlust, dreamers. What is more of an adventure than love? “

Boho Wedding Hair

Hair by Tisch Townley

“When I was asked to be a part of this fabulous bohemian photoshoot at Blakelands, I knew exactly what I wanted to create with the model’s hair”.

“Hair was purposely left loose with intricate braids and soft curls to frame each models face. I executed an updo and a half up half down style. To show a variety of ways to achieve this on trend boho look. I wanted the hair to be carefree, still with a hint of intricacy. The hair, venue, bridal gowns, and accessories worked in full harmony. Thus, making it enchanting and totally captivating”.

“The looks were both finished with delicate handmade bridal accessories to add drama and complement the styles perfectly”.

Wedding Flowers

Clare’s Weddings

“The boho theme is always a favourite of mine and led me to use David Austin roses and a blush pink palette. I also love the vintage feel of a natural bouquet arrangement and pampas adds a whimsical sense. I think the boho bride wants to feel like her flowers have been freshly gathered from the garden and this was my vision for the shoot”.

“The floral displays had an arrangement of sedum, silver dollar eucalyptus, roses, fountain grass, protea, lisianthus and serruria Florida”.

Boho Wedding Dresses

TDR Bridal

“TDR were delighted to be apart of this amazing collaboration styled shoot at Blakelands Country House with a team of incredible suppliers!”

“The team got together, we decided the style best suited for this venue and time of year were pinks and nude tones. Plus, a real sense of bohemian glam”.

“The first dress we chose for Jay was a soft lace boho number. We felt the relaxed style with fluttering light sleeves paired with a soft tulle skirt was the perfect romantic boho gown”.

“The second gown we chose for Megan was a little more glamourous but still had a bohemian feel. This gorgeous vintage lace gown was adorned with delicate 3D floral applique”.

“We have fallen completely and utterly in love with this styled shoot and the team that were involved”.

"I want to thank everyone involved in making this collaborative shoot possible. It was a joy working with you all! Xxx – Emily Grosvenor"
